The Reverend Phillip Thrailkill was appointed by Bishop Roy Clark at the 1984 session of the South Carolina Annual Conference to plant a church in northeast Columbia between I-77 and I-20.  Phil, and his wife Lori, worked with the support of several local United Methodist churches and many lay persons to establish Northeast United Methodist Church. The first worship service was held at Spring Valley High School on September 30, 1984.  In 1992, the Reverend Marshall “Jack” Meadows, formally chartered the congregation during the worship service on July 28, 1985.  The congregation began with 82 adult charter members and 33 baptized members under age 16. Ground was broken for our current campus on Christmas Eve, 1988 and the first worship service was held on October 1, 1989.  In 2000, the Education Building was completed. Today, Northeast averages 300 in attendance in two worship services.
